CAR EDITORSHIP

(Based in Pinelands, Cape Town)

 

We’re pleased to present a great opportunity for a talented individual to take up the role of Editor on CAR. 

This high profile role requires a truly talented individual with high levels of interest in all things motoring related, who is able to generate great content and successfully lead this brand’s multifunctional team to ever continuing success.  

The right candidate will be able to comfortably relate to CAR’s readership as well as the movers and shakers within the automotive industry – and be able to represent the brand both locally and internationally.

 

Key duties:

Content strategy and planning:

• Generate ideas and conceptualise content for different platforms of CAR 

• Input in the Design, Positioning and Marketing of the CAR brand as well as all other extensions

• Writing features and other content as required

• Fully accountable for the quality, accuracy and opinions contained in editorial content

• Manage editorial workflow in order to meet pre-determined production and on-sale dates

• All advertorials / special reports / web letters / sales communications content proofed and subedited prior to implementation

• Manage and brief co-workers and / or freelancers in line with content plan and budget 

• Current content platforms optimally utilized

• Provide input into brand communication activities and approach

• Digital / mobile content strategy in place

• Be up to date with all relevant content / launches / events, etc

• Overall sign off of print and digital offerings 

• Budget tracking processes in place and adhered to

Leadership and management

• Lead and manage the CAR editorial team

• Implement effective team management, leadership and motivation structures 

• Ensure all relevant stakeholders are fully informed of brand strategy and success measures / milestones

• Identify/ develop and retain talent within the company

• Contribute towards a harmonious workplace

 

Design

• Design philosophy defined, agreed and communicated to team

• All design layouts approved and signed off prior to production

• Image management processes in place and adhered to

 

Marketing / Events

• Attend relevant launches/ road shows (local and international) 

 

To be considered for the role, you’ll need the following skills, knowledge and experience:

 

• A minimum of 5-7 years as Editor of a monthly consumer title (with print and digital offerings)

• Excellent  at building a rapport  with all stakeholders

• A good understanding of all content platforms (print and digital) and the ability to fully integrate these into the content offering

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to tell stories for different audiences 

• Top class writing skills, and a portfolio of published work to prove it

• Wide ranging experience in motoring and related feature writing 

• A true passion for all things automotive

• Excellent sub editing and proofing skills

• Experienced in every aspect of the editorial workflow process

• A good eye for design and the ability to lead a creative discussion to reach the desired outcome

• Freedom to travel extensively

• Ability to collaborate effectively with all departments to produce excellent results for CAR.

• Excellent time management and the ability to multi-task
