Position Summary:

Highbury Media (Pty) Ltd is SA’s largest independent magazine and digital publishing company responsible for some of the country’s best-performing titles. The successful applicant will be the Assistant Editor of Motor magazine, the monthly Foschini Group (TFG) print title and motorsa.co.za website, reporting to Motor and Highbury Media (HM) lifestyle motoring editor, Ray Leathern.

 

On the magazine, the successful applicant will be required to (among other things)

 -Assist the editor with all administrative and editorial tasks

-Write feature content when required

-Attend new car launches, conduct road tests, photo shoots when required

-Create unique content for social media platforms

-Commission freelance writers / photographers 

-Edit incoming copy and proofread page layouts, ensuring grammar, style and tone are correct

-Ensure deadlines are met and guide the magazine through various production cycles to print

-Liaise with the design department regarding design

-Liaise with the sales manager regarding sales requests and advertorial content

-Manage editorial and photographic budget

 

On the website, the successful applicant will be required to (among other things): 

-Draw up a weekly content schedule

-Ensure the website is up to date with published Motor content 

-Write web-specific articles

-Liaise with the IT manager regarding website updates and errors

-Share website posts via Facebook and Instagram

 

Additionally, the successful applicant will be required to:

-Help generate positive staff morale

-Develop staff and freelancer writers

 

Requirements:

-Tertiary qualification in English or journalism

-A valid drivers’ license.

-A minimum of two years’ work experience in media

-A capacity to travel and work long hours

-Excellent copy editing, writing, and organisational skills

-Above all, a passion for motoring and the written word
