Highbury Media (Pty) Ltd is SA’s largest independent magazine and digital publishing company responsible for some of the country’s best-performing titles. We are currently looking for a Junior Copy Editor for our Copy Editing department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

-Correct factual and language errors

-Ensure appropriate style and tone and that all copy is reader friendly (i.e.: easy to understand and a pleasure to read) 

-Write catchy headers, blurbs and cover lines 

-Check consistency of straps, blurbs, captions, pull quotes, fonts, and general design style 

-Help to maintain the editorial standard of excellence 

-Trim copy to fit layouts 

-Write captions 

-Check by-lines and credits are correct and page numbers against latest flat plan 

-Subedit advertorial copy 

–Liaise with production department to ensure all ads are signed off without compromising house style  

-Alert Chief Copy Editor to potential problems in the production schedule 

-Write features across HM's lifestyle titles when time permits 

-Continuously update HM style guide

Requirements:

-Communicate effectively with editors, art directors, designers, and repro artists

-Be proactive, self-disciplined, and a good team worker 

-Be able to work accurately and professionally under deadline pressure 

-Have a good general knowledge and be able to handle copy on a wide variety of topics, from motoring and golf to fashion and travel 

-Be proficient in InDesign and be able to use the internet as a research tool in a critical and informed manner
