Position Summary:

Highbury Media (Pty) Ltd is SA’s largest independent magazine and digital publishing company responsible for some of the country’s most-loved and best-performing titles. Established 64 years ago, CAR is SA’s longest-running motoring magazine and an opinion-forming consumer and automotive-interest title. We are currently looking for a Digital Managing Editor.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

The daily content of CARmag.co.za

•In conjunction with the CAR Editor, leading the digital and social-media content strategy.

•Driving strategic planning for digital media and ensuring consistency through all channels.

 

Editorial Excellence

•Take ownership of special projects across various digital platforms as directed by the CAR Editor.

•Provide support to the CAR Editor in the form of undertaking research, tracking real-time trends, monitoring projects and compiling pertinent background information for strategic initiatives.

•Draw up weekly content and social-media schedules. Direct digital teams accordingly to upload and repurpose magazine content.

•Edit content to ensure digital output conforms to the editorial excellence synonymous with CAR.

•Compile a weekly newsletter.

 

Staff Interaction

•Work closely with the CAR Editor to ensure all digital assets are utilised to the full: including videographers, writers, interns, and designers.

 

Social Media

•Create content for Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Engage with readers, respond to direct messages.

•Create discussion points on various platforms with text, video and visuals.

•Compile monthly digital reports and present findings of performance across platforms.

 

Requirements:

•A tertiary qualification in English or journalism.

•Work experience in the motoring media.

•An ability and willingness to work hours as dictated by prevailing news trends.

•Excellent writing, communication, copy editing, organisational and motivational skills.

•Must have established contacts in the motoring industry.

•Proficiency in WordPress CMS, Excel, Photoshop, trending social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc) and the Mac operating system.

•Knowledge of InDesign, Affinity Publisher, and basic video editing a bonus.

•Excellent technical knowledge of motor vehicles.

•A passion for driving and motoring media.
