Position Summary:

Highbury Media (Pty) Ltd is an independent magazine and digital publishing company responsible for some of the best-performing titles. We are currently looking for a digital content producer: news reporter

The successful candidate will be required to

  • Write updates and analysis on current happenings in Cape Town, South Africa, and the world, with the main goal to keep public updated.
  • Conduct follow ups, reach out to sources and always be on top of a hot story.
  • Must be able to work fast and well under pressure.
  • Have a keen eye for trending and viral content.
  • Be proficient in sourcing information and providing the correct credit.
  • Must be a great writer, proficient in spelling, grammar, and fact-checking.
  • Localize content wherever possible.
  • Must be competent in the basics of proof reading and editing glaring errors.
  • Create a minimum of 5 completely original, SEO optimised articles per week.
  • Write a minimum of 5 digital articles per day. One of these articles will be an SEO story from the point above. The other 4 stories will cover anything from breaking and hard news to community news, events, new places, adventures, things to do and feature stories (to name a few).
  • Schedule editorial and social media content in advance and write on the fly, under pressure.
  • WordPress and social media experience is beneficial.
  • Contribute to bettering our brand and being ahead of the game.
  • Think creatively, brainstorm, and work well in a close-knit team.
  • Maintain a solid work ethic whilst working a flexible schedule.
  • The hours of this position are from Monday to Sunday and will be worked over alternating morning shifts (5am to 1pm), day shifts (8.30am to 4.30pm) and evening shifts (2pm to 10pm).
  • Weekend and holiday shifts come with the territory, but these days are taken back during the week when worked. The position is still 40 hours per week, but shifts alternate. Flexibility is a key attribute.
  • The successful candidate needs to be productive, be good at managing their time and resources, communicate well with all contributors, and work as part of a team.



Requirements:

  • The position needs someone who will work closely with the editor in achieving the brand’s goals.
  • They need to have a good understanding of the brand’s principles and should be able to curate the content, so it expresses the pillars and tone.
  • The successful candidate needs to be productive, be good at managing their time and resources, communicate well with all contributors, and work as part of a team.
  • They should be creative and familiar with digital trends and work with the editor, to drive the digital numbers.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule and understand that this position does not run in accordance with a typical 9-5 job.
  • Assist with content creation and editing according to the team schedule, which includes selected weekends, morning or night shifts, and certain holidays.
